Russell Westbrook has agreed to a deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Westbrook and the Kings communicated throughout the offseason as he took a patient approach to free agency.
Westbrook joins Sacramento with established connections across the organization — including bonds with Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, and Zach LaVine, previous experience alongside Dennis Schroder in the backcourt, and familiarity with assistant general manager BJ Armstrong from their agency ties, as well as mutual respect for general manager Scott Perry and head coach Doug Christie.
Westbrook is expected to officially join the Kings later this week.
In 75 games for the Denver Nuggets last season, 36 as a starter, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals on 44.9% shooting from the field. He shot 52% on two-point attempts, marking a career best.
Over the past three seasons, Westbrook has come off the bench 145 of 216 games, consistently finishing among the top 10 in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
Westbrook holds the NBA record for most triple-doubles with 203. He is one of only two players in league history, alongside LeBron James, to reach 25,000 points, 8,000 rebounds, and 8,000 assists.
Since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2018-19 as a franchise legend, Westbrook has played for six other teams — the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets — and now the Kings.
